The Forum Becomes a Member of the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI)
The Forum on Contemporary Theory has become a member of the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI). Accepting an invitation from Ian Baucom (President, Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes, Director, John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute and Professor of English, Duke University), four life members of the Forum, Prafulla C. Kar, Mokshada Kar, Shipra Upadhyay and Deepa Mishra attended the annual meeting of CHCI in Hong Kong during 5-8 June 2014. CHCI serves as a site for the discussion of issues germane to cross-disciplinary activity in the humanities and interpretive social sciences and provides its member institutions with new ways to engage in collaborative research with each other. Member-driven groups can also apply to CHCI for seed money to start theme-based networks and projects; in a few cases, such projects have developed into structured experiments in international collaboration funded over three years by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The Forum is the only association from India that has joined CHCI. We hope that it would be the beginning of a fruitful association with international scholars pursuing research in the area of humanities.
